Auch wenn ich Benjamin Zander persönlich nie kennengelernt habe, sondern nur seine Videos verfolge, erinnert mich alles an meine Ausbildungszeit vor zig Jahren, in denen ich als Student von jüdisch,-amerikanischen Lehrern, namentlich Ramy Shevelov in Hannover damals die wichtigsten Unterweisungen und Hinweise zur Ausführung von Musik aus welcher Epoche auch immer erhalten und mitgenommen habe! I have watched this video a dozen times and every time I’m moved to the depth of my soul. By Elgar’s unbelievably powerful forthright nobility, and his elegy for an era and a society he longed to represent and which the slaughter of the First World War proved to be hollow. Second by Zander’s ability to elicit such an equally powerful and deeply felt performance by such a young musician, a performance that shall follow me to my grave (at 88 that time approaches for me but this video has enriched my life, as have many other moments of transcendent beauty throughout the worlds of music, poetry, art and literature.

the maestro's interpretation classes are a deep treasure trove for me, and his coaching violin soloists is a special niche: so far i've watched 3 (bach g sonata, i, beethoven c'to, i, and this wieniawski fantasie) and in all of them maestro's special note for the soloist is asking the soloist to walk out in their entrance and literally connect with the audience, literally walk into the audience, start playing and make eye-contact, a thing violin soloists are uniquely able to do--just watching this coaching changes my playing as a pianist: i can't get up off the bench, but i can connect...

The allemande isnt about playing slowly with each note shining like a diamond. The allemande is a dance that is danced within a certain sized space. This piece is an example of bach playing the PERFORMANCE SPACE. The way he set this up is for the previous 4 notes to ring as a chord in the rooms natural reverb that sit underneith the next 4 notes played. Look no further than the Baroque and Traverso flute players to hear precisely how this piece should be played and what spaces it is played in.

To be honest these master classes confuse me. I would say I did not understand what the teachers mean . They talk talk talk and I do not get what they mean, because they do not say concrete techniques , in this self poetry style , the students are already doing fine. As for Bach he was the greatest improviser ever, all he did he wrote blueprints and leave the rest to the interpreter.

Yes, the antidote to worry is beauty. I feel that Alexander has been learning too much and doing too little playing and think that it would help him tremendously if he could feel more in touch with the listener and with his desire to play the piece for/to them out of his wanting to share this joy. Love - and loving a piece of music - is not a private affair. (And now Ben is encouraging just that - I'm excited to hear what effect this will have on the cellist.) He's got it. Thanks Ben; thanks Alexander. Love.

I haven't visited your channel for a year. It does not seem that long. The young lady on the violin is doing such a wonderful job but with your positive ideas you make all your people even better. Not only in music but you help to develop character in them that they will carry with them the rest of their lives. I think of you as a PEOPLE BUILDER bringing the very best they have to the surface. Getting back to the young lady on the violin, she is amazing. I believe I can relate to the fact that what she is doing is a discipline that takes much persistence and of course many skills combined together to do what she does. Hope your doing well Benjamin, I know you are highly respected and loved. ❤
